Malta saw renowned driver Lewis Hamilton for the first time ever perform in the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 car in front of enthusiasts who braved the weather and attented the yearly Paqpaqli ghall-Istrina event in aid of the Community Chest Fund.
The sensational arrival of Lewis Hamilton by helicopter set the pace for the enthusiastic public which attended in its thousands. Hamilton was accompanied by Vodafone’s CEO, Balesh Sharma and joined by the President of Malta George Abela, who was presented with the Vodafone Foundation donation of €30,000 in aid of the Community Chest Fund. The highlights of the day however were undoubtedly Hamilton’s shows in which he displayed his world champion skills to the enthusiasm of the crowd, first in the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-26 and following that in the Mercedes Cabrio E-Class 250 CDI where he accompanied the President George Abela and lucky winners in a breathtaking lap around the circuit.
Vodafone’s lucky VIP guests were also able to meet Lewis Hamilton at the Vodafone ‘Raise Your Game’ event where an auction at the Vodafone VIP stand was held with the highest bidder buying and winning a greatly coveted hot lap in the Mercedes sports car driven by the 2008 world champion. Instead of giving out the usual Christmas gifts, this year Vodafone wanted to share their success with others and decided to help out l-Istrina and made a donation with the hope of continuing to help people in need and offer them a better future.
This unprecedented event in Malta was held as part of Vodafone’s Raise your Game campaign. Vodafone, together with the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team and driver Lewis Hamilton promoted the desire in all of us to be better. This initiative, which goes beyond the commercial and touches on the social aspect of pushing all the members of the Maltese community a little bit further, is founded on the restless human desire to make progress, in small ways or big.
